I don't want to play as long as Gaël," says Svitolina about her husband Monfils' longevity
Defeated in the Roland-Garros quarterfinals by Iga Swiatek, Elina Svitolina wrapped up a convincing clay-court season.
The Ukrainian, who has returned to the top 15 (currently ranked 14th in the world), won the Rouen tournament and then reached the semifinals in Madrid and the quarterfinals in Rome.
At 30, she is in great form, though she mentioned in a press conference her desire not to extend her career as long as her husband, Gaël Monfils:
"I wouldn’t want to play that long because I want to have more children. I also want to have a happy retirement and not play for so many years. I’ve been on the tour for years now, and sometimes things can be tough.
You can feel lonely, go through difficult moments. I have a lot of things outside of tennis. I’d have no problem with the idea of stopping earlier than Gaël.
