Swiatek Defeats Svitolina and Advances to the Semifinals at Roland Garros
Swiatek faced Svitolina on the Philippe-Chatrier court in the Roland Garros quarterfinals. The Polish player led their head-to-head record 3-1.
The four-time tournament champion left no room for her opponent, dominating the first set 6-1. However, the Ukrainian raised her level significantly afterward, pushing Swiatek hard and even leading 5-4 in the second set. Just two points away from forcing a third set while Swiatek served, Svitolina couldn’t find the answers, committing numerous forehand errors—over twenty in total throughout the match.
The defending champion, meanwhile, showed signs of tension and frustration early in the second set but managed to regain composure, breaking the world No. 13 to secure a 6-1, 7-5 victory in 1 hour and 42 minutes. She sealed the match with an ace—her third in the final game.
With this win, Swiatek extended her Roland Garros winning streak to 26 matches and booked her eighth Grand Slam semifinal. She will now face world No. 1 Sabalenka, who defeated Zheng in the previous round, for a spot in the final.
