"I feel at home every time I play here," Alcaraz's first words after his defeat to Sinner in the Wimbledon final
Carlos Alcaraz will not win a third consecutive title at Wimbledon. The Spaniard fell to Jannik Sinner in the final (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in 3 hours and 3 minutes) and conceded his first loss in a Grand Slam final after winning his first five.
The world No. 2 was defeated for the first time since the Barcelona final in April, ending a streak of 24 consecutive victories. On court during the trophy ceremony, Alcaraz shared his initial thoughts after his loss to his Italian rival.
"It’s never easy to lose, even if I reached the final. First, I’d like to congratulate Jannik (Sinner) once again. You deserve to win this trophy. You’ve had an incredible two weeks here in London, playing unbelievable tennis.
A big congratulations to your team as well—you have a great team around you. I’m happy for you, keep it up, and I’m glad we can build a great relationship off the court, but also a great rivalry on the court. It’s something that helps me improve every day.
I’m very happy with everything I’ve done this year. At the start of the season, I had some difficulties, on and off the court, but I managed to find joy on the court again, to be happy once more. All of this is thanks to my team and my family.
I’m very lucky to have them with me here. I wouldn’t have been able to stand here in front of you without their help. It’s been a beautiful journey so far, and I just want to keep going like this and thank every member of my team.
Of course, I’ll be back! Wimbledon is one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful tournament we have on the tour. I feel at home every time I play here.
The courts are magnificent, I love playing here in front of you. The atmosphere is incredible. I have to say thank you, but I’ll be back, no doubt," Alcaraz assured on court after his defeat.
