I had a lot of doubts about how my performances would be," Sinner admits
Jannik Sinner spoke at a press conference after his impressive victory over Casper Ruud. When asked how he handles the pressure of recent events—his return to competition, meeting the Pope, and seeing his face everywhere in Rome—the world No. 1 responded.
"I’m just happy to be here. There’s no secret. We prepared in the best way possible to be in good shape here. I had a lot of doubts about how my performances would be because in training, there were a lot of ups and downs.
You don’t get the same feeling as in a real match. If things work, I stay positive; if they don’t, we work on them. After the match against Jesper (de Jong), I stayed on the court because something didn’t go as I wanted.
There’s no secret. Just hard work and self-belief. Of course, the support means a lot to me. I feel really good here. Italian tennis is in a great moment, with Lorenzo (Musetti) also in the semifinals and Jasmine (Paolini) in the final.
It’s nice to be part of it.
