"I love doubles": Carlos Alcaraz happy after his Laver Cup debut
Carlos Alcaraz shined in his first appearance in the Laver Cup, winning his doubles match alongside Jakub Mensik. Against the American pair Fritz-Michelsen, the world No. 1 stood out with his freshness and evident joy in playing.
He was the most anticipated star of this edition of the Laver Cup. And as often, Carlos Alcaraz did not disappoint. For his grand debut in doubles since the 2024 Davis Cup, the Spaniard showcased his talent, instinctive reflexes, but also a genuine pleasure in playing as a team.
Alongside Jakub Mensik, the 22-year-old formed an explosive pair, able to stifle Americans Taylor Fritz and Alex Michelsen in two solid sets (7-6, 6-4). A success that sets the tone for the rest of the tournament but above all reveals an unknown side of the Murcian: his love for doubles.
"I don't play doubles often, but every time I do, I love it. It's something that entertains me. Sometimes, I felt a little lost... I just needed to get closer to the net. But Jakub pushed from the baseline with excellent serves. He was incredible. Last year, I lost my first doubles on the first day, so I'm really happy."
This victory thus brought one more point to the European team, which now leads 3-1.
