Laver Cup 2025: Alcaraz victorious in doubles, Europe takes the lead after the first day of competition

The Laver Cup 2025 kicked off with a bang with impressive performances from Team Europe. While Casper Ruud, Jakub Mensik, and Carlos Alcaraz started well, Team World, energized by its home crowd, is preparing its response.
Casper Ruud perfectly set the tone for Team Europe at the Laver Cup 2025. The Norwegian dominated Reilly Opelka (6-4, 7-6) early in the day in San Francisco. This success was then confirmed by Jakub Mensik. The Czech player dominated another American player, Alex Michelsen (6-1, 6-7, 10-8) to widen the gap, thus allowing Europe to lead 2 points to 0.
However, Team World, encouraged by the Californian crowd, did not give up and responded in the third match. João Fonseca, participating in this competition for the first time in his career, prevailed over Flavio Cobolli (6-4, 6-3) to earn the first point for André Agassi's group.
Thus, it was the doubles match that concluded the program in the night session. On this occasion, Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik were paired against Taylor Fritz/Alex Michelsen. The Europeans, more solid, triumphed (7-6, 6-4).
At the end of the first day of competition, Team Europe, the defending champion after its victory in Berlin last year, is in the lead with 3 points to 1. There are two days remaining in this 2025 edition, and everything is still up for grabs between the two teams.
