I really struggled with my serve," admits Rune after loss to Popyrin in Toronto
Holger Rune continues his season of highs and lows. After withdrawing from Washington, the Dane claimed he was in top form ahead of the Toronto Masters 1000.
While he handled his matches against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Alexandre Müller well, Rune couldn’t overcome defending champion Alexei Popyrin in the round of 16.
A frustrating defeat for the world No. 9, as he expressed in comments relayed by Tennis World Italia:
"I think it was a disappointing match. There’s not much more to say. I never managed to find my level. I really struggled with my serve, which made things difficult. You can’t play an entire match like that because you’ll end up losing. I’m really very disappointed."
"Obviously, I need to play much better. There are decisions I have to make to improve during matches. Once I manage that, I’ll get better results.
