"I still have a lot to learn," Draper realistic about his level compared to Sinner and Alcaraz
Jack Draper is off to an excellent start this season on the ATP Tour. Now ranked world No. 5, the 23-year-old Brit won his first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells, reached the final of the Madrid Masters 1000, and also made the quarterfinals in Rome and the final in Doha.
At Roland-Garros, however, he suffered a slight disappointment, falling in the fourth round to an outstanding Alexander Bublik, who gave him a tough time with numerous drop shots.
Currently in the top 5 of the Race rankings, Draper has shown he can play his best tennis in the biggest tournaments, but he is also realistic about what he still needs to achieve to reach the level of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who now dominate world tennis.
In 2024, the two players of the new generation have split the four Grand Slam titles between them, and the left-hander knows he needs to be more consistent to match the Spaniard and the Italian.
"I think I’m still a little behind them. I still have a lot to learn. If you look at the number of ATP matches they’ve played, they probably have twice as many as me.
They’re a year or two ahead of me in terms of consistency, and they’ve obviously gained much more experience. Honestly, I still have a lot of work to do to catch up to them.
My level is improving more and more, but it’s not just about tennis level—it’s also about continuity. I’ve been more consistent in recent months, but it’s the big tournaments where it matters most. I still have a long way to go, but I think I’m working hard to get there," he told Tennis World Italia.
