"I understood that there was nothing wrong with being myself," Anisimova reflects on her 2023 break

2025 has been the best season in Amanda Anisimova's career so far. Currently ranked 4th in the world, the American has won two WTA 1000 titles this season (Doha and Beijing), also reaching the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open.

This consistency logically allowed her to qualify for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, where she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals. Anisimova will now have to confirm next year, having come back from a long way.

After the sudden death of her father in 2019, the 24-year-old player was then close to burnout in 2023, and she decided to take an eight-month break away from tennis. Her rise began during the 2024 season. Anisimova is in any case satisfied with everything she has accomplished in recent months.

"I feel like my career has somehow started over"

"I am very satisfied with my year. I achieved things I had always dreamed of, but I know there is still a lot of room for improvement. In the past, I struggled a lot to maintain certain results.

This year, I proved to myself that I could be competitive week after week. I always manage to find that extra 10% in difficult situations. I think I play better when the stakes are higher.

In everyday life, I am very relaxed and I don't take anything too seriously. During the match, everything is completely different. The 2023 break took a weight off my shoulders. I understood that there was nothing wrong with being myself.

I am not someone who thinks too much about the future. Right now, I am having fun and I am enthusiastic for the coming year. I feel like my career has somehow started over," Anisimova assured Sports Illustrated.

Hello I'm new

I am surprised about relatively low attendance at Roland Garros which was the most popular slam 20+ years ago. I myself love it as well as really loving aus and us opens. I don't care about Wimbledon, sometimes maybe I can watch women's tennis. I hate Wimbledon's white dress code, I feel like I am watching junior tennis...I watched very few matches like Graf davenport final in 1999 the last time.....
