"I want to get back into the top 100 in 2026": At 40, Wawrinka reveals his goal for the next season
At 40 years old, Stan Wawrinka is going to give it another go in 2026. The Swiss player, who has won four matches on the main tour this season, has mainly shone on the Challenger circuit, reaching two finals in Aix-en-Provence and Rennes.
"I haven't been back to Auckland in 20 years"
Honorable results for his age, which convinced him to continue for one more year on the tour. The veteran, still as motivated, explained his choice to start the upcoming season in Auckland (January 12-18):
"The last time I played in Auckland was 20 years ago. It was a fantastic experience. I haven't had the chance to go back since, but I'm really happy to be returning.
I decided to come back this year to have the opportunity to play in Auckland again in front of my supporters. I remember the incredible atmosphere there and I'm really looking forward to being there. I love competition."
A decision about his future at the end of 2026?
"I continue to train hard to be at my best during tournaments and matches. I hope to rejoin the top 100 in 2026, participate in major tournaments, continue to improve and see where I stand at the end of the year," said the three-time Grand Slam winner in comments reported by Tennis Actu.
