"I want to return to the tour": Lisicki hasn't given up on her playing career

Sabine Lisicki discusses her return to the tour after a maternity-related break.
At 35 years old, Lisicki is preparing her return to competition. The German player, former world No. 12 and Wimbledon finalist in 2013 against Marion Bartoli, hasn't played a single match since December 2023, before temporarily withdrawing from the tour for her childbirth.
Now a mother, Lisicki confirmed she wants to return to competition as soon as possible, even though she doesn't yet know when she'll be able to play tournaments on the professional circuit.
"I still have the same goal in mind. I want to return to the tour. It felt good to hear doctors tell me I'm in a normal process, that my body needs more time.
I want to return in shape but I'm also aware this will all take time. We'll adapt the training schedule accordingly. I prefer training in the morning, because my daughter is very energetic and loves going to the court.
It's great - I was fortunate to play a lot of tennis during my pregnancy, maybe that's why she likes it so much. She loves tennis courts, even though sometimes she falls asleep in the shade watching me.
Beyond this training block, the rest of the day as a mother is more routine: meals, naps, swimming and play. Tatjana Maria is an example to follow for players who became mothers before returning.
I've known her daughter Charlotte since she was a few months old, I've always been impressed by how she and her husband handled situations on tour, how they managed everything as parents.
It's beautiful to see, it's an incredible achievement with two girls throughout the journey. I'm very happy for both of them, they deserve all this," Lisicki told Punto de Break.
