"I was a bit nervous that day," Gauff reflects on forgetting her rackets in the first round

Gauff dominated her compatriot Keys to advance to the semifinals at Roland-Garros. Interviewed on the clay by France Télévisions, the American touched on several topics, including the unusual scene that unfolded earlier in the tournament. Indeed, the world No. 2 entered the court without her rackets:
"It was my fault and JC’s, my coach. I don’t know what happened—I didn’t notice something was missing from the bag. Frances (Tiafoe), he sometimes does silly things like that, but it’s not really my style. I was a bit nervous that day; it was the first round.
We can laugh about it now. Usually, it’s my coach who puts the rackets in the bag because he’s superstitious. He also handles the stringing, the grips—he checks everything."
For a spot in the final, she will face the women's draw sensation, Loïs Boisson, ranked 361st in the world.
