Semifinalist in her first Grand Slam: Who is Loïs Boisson, the new sensation of French tennis?

Qualified for the final four at Roland-Garros, Loïs Boisson is the third player to reach this stage of the competition in her first Grand Slam. After defeating world No. 6 Andreeva, the Frenchwoman has become the new darling of French tennis in just one tournament. Here’s a closer look at the young player’s journey.
Born on May 16, 2003, in Dijon and the daughter of former ASVEL basketball player Yann Boisson, Loïs Boisson started playing tennis at the age of 8, gradually climbing the ranks of women’s tennis. A strong performer in ITF tournaments, she was already set to make her debut at Roland-Garros last year. Invited by the organizers, the Frenchwoman unfortunately suffered a knee injury just before the tournament, forcing her to undergo surgery.
This year, she made waves by defeating five opponents, including three seeded players and two top-10 players, to reach the semifinals of Roland-Garros. By the end of the tournament, she will become the new French No. 1 in the rankings, jumping from world No. 361 to at least No. 65. A huge fan of Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, Boisson doesn’t hide her ambitions and has no plans to stop here.
Today, she trains in the south of France at TC Nice Giordan.
