"I was asleep during the first two sets. 11 a.m. is a bit early for me," Bublik reflects on his comeback against de Minaur
Alexander Bublik pulled off a stunning comeback against Alex de Minaur this Thursday at Roland-Garros. Far from being the favorite and trailing two sets to love, the Kazakh managed to turn the tables on the Australian to win in five sets.
After the match, he shared his satisfaction with this victory on a surface far from his favorite, in a match scheduled at a time that didn’t quite suit him.
"It's no secret, I kept playing. I took every opportunity. The momentum shifted. It was a bit early for me. 11 a.m. isn’t my time.
I was still asleep during the first two sets. So it was important for me to wake up and play one of the best Grand Slam matches of my life. This year, I’ve already won 12-13 matches on clay.
Just making it to the second round here was already a good thing for me because I’ve never won this many matches on clay before. So I’m a bit tired.
I told my team, they know. If I had lost, it wouldn’t have been a big deal."
For a spot in the round of 16, Bublik will face Henrique Rocha, the surprising conqueror of Jakub Mensik.
