I was so fearless," Sharapova reveals the greatest memory of her career
Sharapova left her mark on tennis history with her charismatic personality and aggressive playing style. A five-time Grand Slam champion, the Russian entered the professional circuit at just 14 years old and won her first Major three years later in a final against Serena Williams. A memorable match that the player describes as the greatest memory of her career.
"I would say my first Grand Slam final is ultimately the most memorable. In my career, it happened at a very young age. I was 17, and it was in London, at Wimbledon, and you know, the whole world was watching. I was playing against Serena Williams, and I felt like I was just supposed to be happy to be there, but I was so fearless.
I loved that event. I loved the quiet moments of the English crowd. I loved the strawberries and cream before every match. Even though I wasn’t supposed to eat the cream (laughs). But it’s always the memory that comes back to me because I didn’t expect it at all at that time. And I was so determined. I gave it my all.
