Facing Krejcikova in the first round in Montreal, Andreescu won in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

While the victory seemed within reach for the Canadian, an unfortunate incident marred the match. At 5-4 on her serve in the second set, Andreescu injured her ankle, collapsing in tears in front of the spectators on-site.

With the physio's intervention, the 25-year-old player gritted her teeth and managed to finish the match after 1 hour and 44 minutes of play. Invited by the organizers, she expressed her emotions following the scare: "I was very lucky, what happened is really unfortunate. I don’t know what to say. Thank you all, these kinds of moments are never easy."

The question remains whether she will be able to hold her ground in the next match against Russian player Andreeva. For context, she is no stranger to this tournament, having won here in 2019 at just 19 years old.
