"I was very nervous before the match," says Andreeva after her victory against Parks at the US Open
Mirra Andreeva made a strong start at the US Open with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alycia Parks.
There had been physical concerns surrounding the Russian player, who had been forced to withdraw from Cincinnati due to an ankle issue and was uncertain about her participation in New York.
After her victory, she revealed: "I was very nervous before this match, but I'm happy with how I handled the pressure and excitement.
I saw her (Parks') recent results, she's been playing well. I tried to stay as focused as possible throughout the match. It wasn't easy, first-round matches are always tough, so overall, I'm very satisfied with the level I showed on the court today."
Andreeva will face Anastasia Potapova in the next round.
