WTA Finals: Keys Uncertain for Her Final Group Match?
After two losses in the group stage in Riyadh, the American chose not to shake hands with Anisimova due to a virus, casting doubt on her participation on Wednesday.
Madison Keys, defeated in her first two group matches by Iga Swiatek (6-1, 6-2) and Amanda Anisimova (4-6, 6-3, 6-2), has not displayed her best level at these WTA Finals.
The Australian Open champion from earlier this season avoided the traditional handshake with Anisimova this Monday, citing a health issue.
Already eliminated from the Serena Williams group, Keys is scheduled to face Elena Rybakina on Wednesday. However, given her condition, the world No. 7 might withdraw from this final match, giving her spot to Mirra Andreeva, the tournament's first alternate.
Last year, Jessica Pegula experienced a similar situation, having withdrawn after losing her first two group matches.
