I was very nervous: Fonseca recounts his meeting with Federer

At just 19 years old, João Fonseca experienced what generations of young tennis players still dream of: a meeting with Roger Federer.

It was in San Francisco, during the 2025 Laver Cup, that the recent Basel winner had the privilege of crossing paths with the Swiss legend. The Brazilian was part of "Team World," a first for him.

"He has always been my idol. Before meeting him, I was very nervous. We talked about life on the tour, about Brazil, and how I handle being away from home. Roger reminded me that the most important thing is to love the game, every day. He is an exceptional person. I will remember this conversation for the rest of my life," he told CNN.

Already considered one of the greatest hopes of South American tennis, João Fonseca now aims for the top of the ATP rankings.
