I would love to relive all those emotions," Federer reveals the three matches he'd like to replay in his career
In an interview with Eurosport Spain, the legendary Federer reflected on the three matches he would have liked to replay over the course of his professional career. Throughout a nearly 25-year career, the Swiss player competed in 31 Grand Slam finals and won 103 titles on the tour.
"Thinking back to the feeling after certain matches, I’ll settle on three victories because of the mark they left on me. The first one I’d like to replay is clear to me—I’d go back to Wimbledon 2001 and my match against Pete Sampras. That match meant so much: facing the hero of an entire generation, my first time on Centre Court at Wimbledon, all without knowing what this tournament would bring to my career.
Second, I’d choose the 2009 Roland Garros final. I chased that tournament for a long time, until that season when the doors opened with Rafa’s elimination. I felt like the entire crowd was behind me—they really wanted me to win, and that made me feel very special.
Finally, I’ll pick the 2017 Australian Open final, right after my knee problems. It was a complete match—it had everything. I would love to relive all those emotions, but well, you can’t go back—that’s just how it is.
