The plaque was the most emotional moment," Federer reflects on the ceremony for Nadal at Roland-Garros
Roger Federer opened up to Eurosport Spain and was asked about the ceremony for Rafael Nadal during the 2025 edition of Roland-Garros.
The Swiss star also took part in the ceremony alongside Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. He shared his thoughts on the moment.
"It was incredible. I think everyone loved the tribute, especially Rafa, who undoubtedly adored it the most. I’ve heard him talk about his feelings in several interviews, and it makes me very happy.
Those were moments of great emotion and gratitude. It was amazing to see his reaction when they showed him the plaque with his name…
For me, that was the most moving moment. That plaque will remain there forever. Every player who steps onto the court will see it, and I’m sure it will inspire and motivate them. Honestly, he got the farewell and tribute he deserved.
I’m happy for him, and grateful to have been able to experience this with them—I hadn’t seen them in months. It’s always a pleasure to reunite with Rafa’s entire family and friends.
I was lucky enough to get to know them, and I loved seeing them all smiling. The crowd was also incredible.
This was my first time back at Roland-Garros since my retirement. The last time was in 2021, that year without any fans in the stands.
I remember my last match, in the third round against Dominik Koepfer, a night session but with no spectators in the stadium. Personally, it was wonderful to return to the Philippe-Chatrier court, but this time with packed stands.
Paris will always be a special place for me; I’ve experienced unforgettable moments there, especially with Rafa.
