"I would say it's destiny," Alcaraz reflects on the incredible coincidence with Nadal
At the end of a final that will go down in history, Alcaraz joined his idol and Spanish legend, Rafael Nadal, by winning the 5th Grand Slam title of his career at the age of 22 years, 1 month, and 3 days. Indeed, Rafa had claimed his 5th major in 2008 against Federer at Wimbledon. The world No. 2 addressed this astonishing statistic in the press conference:
"I would say it's destiny, I suppose. It's a stat I'll keep forever. Winning the 5th at the same time as Rafa, my idol, my inspiration. It's a huge honor. I hope it doesn't stop here."
Alcaraz also became the fourth player this century to win at least five Grand Slam titles, following in the footsteps of the Big 3.
