Carlos Alcaraz secured his spot in the second round of Wimbledon after a hard-fought five-set victory over Fabio Fognini.
This Wednesday, he will face Oliver Tarvet, a player largely unknown to the general public and ranked 733rd in the world. However, Alcaraz is cautious.
He states: "I heard his name for the first time when he entered the main draw. He’s ranked 700th in the world and he’s in the main draw of Wimbledon.
He won his first ATP match today—I find that impressive. If he’s here, it’s because he deserves it. I watched a bit of his match before mine and, to be honest, I saw some really good grass-court tennis.
I need to be ready, I’ll try to improve. I can’t assume I’ll win easily. I have to respect him. I have to remind myself that if I don’t play at my best level, I could lose. I’ve seen him play, and he has the level.
