"Give me your t-shirt Charly," Fognini's request to Alcaraz for his son
After a memorable five-set match, Fognini bid farewell to the legendary Wimbledon tournament amid cheers from the crowd. At 38 years old, the Italian delivered one last impressive performance against the two-time defending champion, Alcaraz (7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1).
Though Fognini had jokingly claimed before the match that he had forbidden his son from greeting his idol Alcaraz, the Italian didn’t forget about it afterward. Indeed, he didn’t hesitate to ask the Spanish prodigy for his t-shirt as a gift for his little boy "Federico."
In his 15th appearance at the prestigious English tournament, Fognini not only bowed out on grass but also hinted at retirement: "It’s hard to say anything. This is the best way to say goodbye to Wimbledon—and maybe to tennis." What he announces in the coming days remains to be seen.
