If I don't overthink and keep a cool head, I can project what I want on the court," says Mboko after her quarterfinal in Montreal
Canadian tennis sensation Mboko delivered an impressive performance at the Montreal tournament. After securing her spot in the semifinals with a victory over Bouzaz Maneiro (6-4, 6-2), she shared her thoughts in the press zone.
"I don’t know if there’s a secret. I guess staying calm in such high-pressure situations is the key to delivering what you want, to asserting yourself in those tough moments. The natural human reaction is always to tense up and react, but I think if I project calmness and relaxation, my mind will follow. If I don’t overthink and keep a cool head, I can project what I want on the court. That’s what helps me in more complex situations."
Regarding her upcoming opponent Rybakina, the 18-year-old player is well aware of the challenge ahead, having faced her in the previous tournament:
"I already played her in Washington less than two weeks ago, so I’m not expecting an easy match at all. Maybe I just need to raise my level a bit. She’s a player with great baseline shots and an incredible serve. That day, I’ll have to do everything to stay in the fight.
