If I play normally, I beat him 9 times out of 10," admits Rune after his first-round exit at Wimbledon against Jarry

If I play normally, I beat him 9 times out of 10, admits Rune after his first-round exit at Wimbledon against Jarry

Holger Rune reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon last year. This time, the Danish world No. 8 was knocked out early, defeated by Nicolas Jarry after leading two sets to love (4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4).

Another disappointment for Rune, who has been inconsistent this season—reaching the final at Indian Wells and winning the title in Barcelona, but also suffering several retirements and early exits. In the press conference, he didn’t hold back in assessing his opponent’s performance:

"I started the match well, I was playing well. There was a bit of bad luck in the third set. And in the fourth, I started feeling pain in my knee and had to get treatment.

From that point on, I wasn’t able to serve or hit my backhand like I did in the first two sets.

With all due respect to Nicolas Jarry, if I play normally, I beat him 9 times out of 10. Obviously, it wasn’t easy today with my knee.

Nico Jarry has beaten several top 10 players in the last few years. Alcaraz, Zverat, Tsitsipas (when the greek played good tennis), etc.

Nico having a good day can do damage and beat even the best of the best.

Rune has no class, no decency, no tennis, and he beat you when he was losing 2 sets down.
