If players aren't smart enough to understand what they need to change," Fritz discusses on-court coaching

Asked during the Tennis Insider Club podcast, Fritz shared his perspective on on-court coaching. Approved since January 1, 2025, this new rule allows players to receive advice from their team during matches. A decision adopted by the International Tennis Federation, but one that doesn't sit well with the American:
"I get it. I think it's bad for the game, but for the fans, if there's a way to hear what you're saying to your coach, maybe it's more entertaining. Personally, I don't do it anyway. So, it's like we're already missing out on that.
Tennis is an individual sport. Why should someone else be able to tell me what to do when tennis strategy is such a big part of the game—like understanding what my opponent is doing, figuring out their patterns? Maybe the way I'm structuring the point isn't good and I need to change something. If players aren't smart enough to realize they need to adjust what they're doing, it's completely absurd that someone else can just tell them instead.
