"I'll keep quiet now," Gauff forgets her rackets in the locker room before her match at Roland Garros
Coco Gauff got off to a perfect start at Roland Garros 2025. The American, ranked world No. 2, had no trouble dispatching Olivia Gadecki in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) to advance to the second round on the Parisian clay.
However, Gauff had left her rackets in the locker room and only realized after stepping onto the court. She took the incident in stride after her victory, even joking about it. She also recalled a similar mishap involving her compatriot Frances Tiafoe at Indian Wells in recent weeks.
"The culprit isn’t in my box because they know the rackets are supposed to be in my bag. Ever since I’ve been on tour, my coach has always put the rackets in my bag—he’s really superstitious.
I walked onto the court and realized I didn’t have any rackets. In Madrid, I made fun of Frances (Tiafoe) because the same thing happened to him. Now, I’ll keep quiet.
Anyway, I’m blaming my coach, so it’s fine," Gauff quipped ironically. She will face Czech qualifier Valentova in the next round.
