"The decision is up to each tournament," Gauff comments on the absence of women's matches in the evening session at Roland Garros

A finalist in 2022, Coco Gauff didn’t falter in her opening match at Roland Garros. One of the in-form players in recent weeks, she comfortably dominated Olivia Gadecki (6-2, 6-2) and will face Czech qualifier Tereza Valentova, who defeated Chloé Paquet, for a spot in the round of 16.
During the press conference, the American world No. 2 addressed the lack of women’s matches scheduled in the evening session on Court Philippe-Chatrier, a topic previously raised earlier in the tournament by Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur, among others.
"There’s only one match scheduled at 8:15 PM, but the truth is, I don’t think any female player wants to play at that time—though I don’t know how the others feel. Still, I believe most would prefer to play earlier in the day.
But if there’s only one men’s match at 8:15 PM... Maybe they could schedule a match earlier, around 6:30 or 7 PM, and include a women’s match, making sure it doesn’t start after the men’s. Otherwise, the women involved could end up playing at 11 PM or even midnight.
It really depends on each tournament, but I think here, that’s what the organizers want to do. It’s true that most other tournaments schedule two matches, one at 7 PM and another right after. But I can’t complain—the decision is up to each tournament," Gauff told *Punto De Break*.
