"It's mainly a question of experience," Gauff savors her Asian tour

It's mainly a question of experience, Gauff savors her Asian tour

Coco Gauff has qualified for the semifinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan. The American, world number 3, had no difficulty eliminating Laura Siegemund (6-3, 6-0) and still hasn't conceded a single set in this tournament.

Before facing Jasmine Paolini, against whom she has lost the last three matches, the 21-year-old player reflected on the factors that help her perform well in China during each Asian tour, having also reached the semifinals in Beijing this year.

"It's the end of the season and I feel there isn't much pressure right now. The supporters are very welcoming, they cheer me on and that really helps me. There are also the conditions, especially here in Wuhan. They're very similar to what I'm used to at home.

That gives me confidence and stability. That's probably why I do well in China, although honestly, I think the main factor is actually the timing of when these tournaments take place.

The top players are currently maintaining a very high level, and we all motivate each other to play our best. Of course, there are other players who are playing well and gradually improving.

But when you have more experience at this level, you better understand how to close out matches, especially early in the tournament against lower-ranked opponents who can still win.

It's mainly a question of experience: when you have enough of it, the results follow. And of course, being seeded also helps: in the early rounds, you usually don't face the strongest players right away, and that matters too," Gauff assured Tribuna.
