Masters 1000 Semifinals: At 21, Coco Gauff Surpasses the Williams Sisters

At just 21 years old, Coco Gauff has joined an ultra-exclusive circle of players with early-career achievements, thanks to her victory over Siegemund (6-3, 6-0) in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan.

With 12 WTA-1000 tournament semifinals before even turning 22, the American surpasses the legendary Venus and Serena Williams at this stage of their careers. An impressive performance that places Gauff just behind Martina Hingis (33 semifinals before age 22) and Maria Sharapova (15)—two players who have forever left their mark on tennis history.

"I don't look at the stats, but knowing it makes me even hungrier," Gauff shared in a press conference.

This number may just be a statistical detail, but it symbolizes the consistency and mental strength of a player still evolving. While she hasn't yet reached her full potential, Gauff has already accomplished a great deal.

Interesting comparison. Coco is 21 and has won 2 majors. By 21 Sharapova had won 3 having to contend with Venus and Serena. Hingis had won 5, Venus had won 4 majors and Serena had won 6.
