Frech Criticizes Playing Conditions in Wuhan: It's No Longer a Tennis Match, But Simply a Matter of Survival

Magdalena Frech, defeated in the third round of the Wuhan tournament, did not appreciate playing several consecutive days under extreme conditions.

World No. 53, Frech was eliminated in the third round of the WTA 1000 in Wuhan. After her victories against Veronika Kudermetova and Karolina Muchova, the Polish player was then beaten by Laura Siegemund in the round of 16 (6-4, 7-6).

After her defeat, the 27-year-old player posted a message on her social media. She criticized the playing conditions in the Chinese city and responded to malicious individuals on social media.

"In response to the avalanche of negative comments after the last match, I would like to inform you that sometimes, I regret it, but I am not a machine, even though I feel that the organizers treat us as such when they set the match schedule.

Playing three consecutive days between 1 PM and 4 PM, under extreme conditions, unfortunately has consequences on my health, which always comes first. Playing at 36 degrees, with high air pollution, heated concrete, and high humidity is acceptable if it doesn't happen every day.

Unfortunately, the accumulation of all these efforts has consequences. I never felt like I did yesterday (Thursday), despite having spent several years on the tour. It was the lack of energy and the constant struggle against negative emotions that prevented my body from delivering a different effort.

Hitting the ball into the court was a major challenge. It's no longer a tennis match, but simply a matter of survival. To all the fans, thank you for your support, your presence is very important," Frech wrote on her X account (formerly Twitter).
