I'm not one to hold a grudge," Gauff wants to move past controversy with Sabalenka
Several players appeared this Saturday during Wimbledon's media day to answer questions from journalists.
Coco Gauff was among them. The Roland-Garros champion discussed her expectations for the tournament, as well as the controversy sparked by Aryna Sabalenka after their final in Paris:
"Some criticized what she said during her speech. It didn’t bother me because I understand that feeling. It was a day with tough playing conditions. I don’t think I played very well either, so I got what she meant. Of course, I was surprised by some of the things she said during her press conference.
But I’m not one to hold a grudge. I talked about it with my team. If she apologized, not necessarily publicly, but even just privately, that would have been enough to move on. She did, and she apologized again before our practice.
I know Aryna. We get along well. It wasn’t hard to accept her apology. A lot was said, but I’m not someone who fuels hate or that kind of thing.
