"I'm too old for this mind game, okay?!" Bencic's anger during her match against Gauff
Facing Gauff in the round of 16 at the Beijing WTA 1000 tournament, Bencic saw red at 2-3 in the second set. Clearly frustrated by someone in the crowd, she confronted the chair umpire during the changeover:
"When the point is over, no problem. But when I'm about to serve, they don't need to applaud."
The Swiss player didn't stop there as she then addressed her opponent of the day:
"Nobody's talking to you. She's talking to me! I didn't start it. Your team is talking. I'm too old for this mind game, okay?!"
A frustration that only grew afterward since, despite leading by one set and a break in the second set, the 28-year-old player first lost the tie-break (7-4) before collapsing afterward (6-2).
