Impressive Tsitsipas reaches the second round at Roland-Garros
It wasn't the easiest draw imaginable. Faced with Marton Fucsovics (54th) in his first match, the Greek needed half a set to get the measure of his opponent. Victorious after a fine opening duel (7-6, 6-4, 6-1 in 2h22), Tsitsipas has established himself even more firmly as one of the contenders for the title in Paris.
Faced with an ever-dangerous Hungarian, the world number 9 gave himself a real scare. Conceding a lot of ground to a very aggressive opponent, he managed to keep his back to it, even saving a first set point, before finally taking control of the match.
After a high-flying tie-break, finally won 9 points to 7, the winner of the last Monte-Carlo tournament never let go of his prey and flew into the next round. Taking advantage of a fading Fucsovics, he went on to win 9 of the last 10 games of the match.
In the next round, he will meet Daniel Altmaier, who defeated Djere in over 5 hours (7-5, 6-4, 6-7, 5-7, 7-6).
