In Montreal, Kostyuk Advances to Her Third WTA 1000 Quarterfinal of the Season

Marta Kostyuk arrived in Quebec with the goal of ending a streak of six consecutive defeats since Rome.
After two hard-fought wins against Marketa Vondrousova and Daria Kasatkina, the Ukrainian once again battled it out against McCartney Kessler.
As in her first two rounds, Kostyuk dropped the first set despite having two set points at 5-4. Three games later, Kessler clinched the opening set after a tightly contested battle.
Leading with a set and a break advantage, the American then fell under the dominance of the world No. 28, who won four straight games from 0-1 to 4-1.
This momentum allowed Kostyuk, far more dangerous in rallies, to comfortably secure the second and third sets. After 2 hours and 40 minutes, she triumphed 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 to claim her first quarterfinal berth at the WTA 1000 in Montreal.
She could face her compatriot Dayana Yastremska next, who is currently playing against Elena Rybakina.
