She joked about winning more games than last time, Swiatek reveals about her net exchange with Lys in Montreal

Iga Swiatek smoothly advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 in Montreal with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Eva Lys.

This was their second meeting this season, following a 6-0, 6-1 round of 16 win by Swiatek in just 59 minutes at the last Australian Open.

During their handshake yesterday, Lys shared a few words with the recent Wimbledon champion.

"She joked about winning more games than last time," Swiatek shared in the press conference.

"She’s a really nice girl with a down-to-earth sense of humor, and I love that. At first, I didn’t quite hear her. Those net exchanges are always a bit awkward. I appreciate her humor, so it was funny," concluded the world No. 3.

Meanwhile, Lys reflected on her elimination on social media: "Iga always ends my good runs lol. I did my best and was a little closer this time. We appreciate small steps forward.
