In two steps, Ruud reaches the second round
It wasn't all plain sailing for Casper Ruud on Sunday.
Two-time French Open finalist, the Norwegian had a little trouble adapting to the surface, starting his game very slowly, but he finally got the upper hand to win in less than 1h30 (7-5, 6-1).
Faced with a Taro Daniel who was as hard-working as ever, Ruud held his nerve in the first set to finally break his opponent in the money-time and dominate the proceedings in the second.
Without playing his best tennis, the world no. 8 has done his job, and will therefore be ready to face the winner of the match between Vavassori and Martinez in the second round.
Although he is clearly not one of the favourites for the title, he remains a serious outsider and could very well walk away with a medal from Paris.
