"It cannot continue like this," says Bertolucci about the Davis Cup
Paolo Bertolucci, former Italian player, shared his satisfaction with Italy's victory in the Davis Cup and the atmosphere for his team playing at home in Bologna, but criticized the competition's format.
In remarks reported by Tennis World Italia, he stated: "It was a magnificent Sunday. We rediscovered the electrifying atmosphere of the Davis Cup. It's good, because they won and it's happening in Italy.
We are the best. Participating in this event allowed me to rediscover the taste of the Davis Cup. The competition has an absurd and senseless format that absolutely must be reviewed. I agree with a suspension of two or three years and a return to the previous format.
It cannot continue like this. We won without facing a player in the top 35 worldwide, that's unacceptable. And then, the fact that we are phenomenal without Jannik Sinner means that for the others, it's tragic, they need to get their act together."
