"It hit me hard," Jeanjean reflects on her non-selection with France in the BJK Cup in April
Léolia Jeanjean will participate in the upcoming United Cup 2026. The French player, currently ranked 103rd in the world, will represent her country in Australia alongside Rinderknech, Blancaneaux, Roger-Vasselin, Boisson, and Rakotomanga Rajaonah. A consolation for the 30-year-old player, who has so far never been able to play in the BJK Cup.
In an interview with our colleagues at Tennis Actu, the Montpellier native stated that she did not understand why she was not selected by Julien Benneteau to participate in the BJK Cup playoffs in April. The French team had then won against Sweden but lost to Turkey.
"It was very hard for me to understand this choice"
"To be honest, I thought I was going to be selected for this year's edition. It's a hard blow because I was playing really well at that time. There were circumstances where unfortunately, Diane (Parry) was injured, Clara (Burel) was injured and not playing very well.
I said to myself: 'This time it's it, I'm really going to get this selection for the French team. I don't see how it could be otherwise.' The fact that it happened otherwise, it hit me hard because I was disappointed.
There was disappointment and incomprehension, and arguments that for me were not good. It was very hard for me to understand this choice. I was really sad, because I haven't had the chance yet to represent my country in the BJK Cup.
I hope it will eventually happen at some point. I tell myself that if I play well and I am among the best French players, I think it will happen. Now it's up to me to make it happen," she stated.
