"It was a surprise for me too," Djokovic reflects on departures in Sinner's team
In recent hours, Jannik Sinner surprised many by confirming that he is parting ways with two members of his team—his fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio—just days before Wimbledon.
Speaking at a press conference during Media Day ahead of his Wimbledon opener against Alexandre Muller, the Serb addressed the situation. Djokovic had previously worked with Panichi and Badio before they eventually joined the team of the current world No. 1.
"I worked with Marco and Uli, and I consider them exceptional professionals. Both contributed greatly to my success. I don’t know why they stopped working with Jannik (Sinner).
To be honest, it was a surprise for me too, because, from my perspective, his game and physical condition have improved significantly over the past year and a half.
But changes happen sometimes. And it’s not always exclusively about professional relationships—there can also be personal reasons. I’ve made changes in my own career, and I understand that sometimes you’re no longer on the same wavelength, so you decide to part ways.
Maybe he’s looking for something new, something different. It’s hard to generalize because we’re all different," he concluded in his remarks to Championat.
