Monfils to Work with a New Coach at Least Until the Toronto Masters 1000
Lacking confidence lately, Gaël Monfils will bring on a new coach for the coming weeks. The 38-year-old Frenchman, who is on a three-match losing streak on the main tour, will enter Wimbledon without having won a single grass-court match in 2025.
While the current world No. 42 is set to face his compatriot Ugo Humbert right away in London, Dorian Descloix will join Monfils' team for his upcoming tournaments.
As reported by *L'Équipe*, Descloix will effectively replace Mikael Tillström, who had been coaching the Frenchman but left his position before Roland-Garros in recent weeks. The two will collaborate at least until the Toronto Masters 1000, scheduled from July 27 to August 7.
"Dorian (Descloix) is coming to give me a little help for a few weeks. We've agreed to work together until Toronto. He’ll be with me for Wimbledon, Washington, and Toronto. We’ll sit down in Toronto, assess things, and see how it’s going," Monfils told the French media in recent hours.
"I wanted to bring someone in for a few weeks—not necessarily a long-term commitment. Just a few weeks to see. Dorian brings a fresh perspective, different experience, and a new sensibility."
