"It was an opportunity to speak from the heart," De Minaur reflects on his loss to Musetti at the ATP Finals
Alex De Minaur had a very good season. The Australian, winner of the ATP 500 tournament in Washington and a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open and US Open among others, had earned his spot for the ATP Finals.
In Turin, the world No. 7 reached the semifinals, losing to Jannik Sinner. In an interview, the 26-year-old player reflected on his painful loss to Lorenzo Musetti in the group stage, when he was leading 5-3 in the third set.
"Some defeats are much harder to accept"
"In the end, I don't think it's the worst thing to be completely honest and open. Often, as players, we try to put on a brave face, but some defeats are much harder to accept. I would probably be lying if I said that loss didn't affect me, but I'm satisfied with the result (semifinals) and everything else.
For me, it was an opportunity to be completely honest with myself and speak from the heart in the press conference. Ultimately, that's how I can learn from these moments and experiences and try not to make the same mistakes again. Overall, it's been my best year so far.
There have been great moments, but also disappointments that I can learn from. Two players, Jannik (Sinner) and Carlos (Alcaraz), have won a lot of big tournaments, and the challenge for all of us is to try to close the gap they've created," De Minaur told Tennis365.
