"It was like I had never played on grass," a disappointed Musetti after his Wimbledon exit
Lorenzo Musetti made an early exit at Wimbledon. Last year's semifinalist, the world No. 7—who had just returned from a leg injury that forced him to retire in the Roland-Garros semifinals against Carlos Alcaraz—hadn't played any preparatory grass-court tournaments before arriving in London.
The Italian ultimately fell to qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili (6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1). Speaking at a press conference after his defeat, Musetti expressed his disappointment, as he won’t be able to replicate last year’s performance.
"When I arrived here to play the tournament, I wasn’t feeling good at all—neither in terms of my tennis level nor physically. I didn’t have the energy needed to play such a match, I couldn’t move well.
It was like I had never played on grass. The truth is, my level was very poor," Musetti admitted bluntly, as reported by Tennis World Italia.
