"It’s a dream come true," Maria overjoyed after unexpected Queen’s final qualification
Tatjana Maria arrived at Queen’s last weekend to play the qualifying rounds, and just a week later, she now stands one step away from the biggest title of her career.
Three years ago, the German player had already achieved the feat of reaching the Wimbledon semifinals with a game that stands out on grass, heavily relying on slice—whether forehand or backhand. That tactic has paid off again this week, as she prepares to celebrate her 38th birthday on August 8.
After defeating Leylah Fernandez, Karolina Muchova, Elena Rybakina, and Madison Keys, Maria will face Amanda Anisimova in the final. Speaking to the WTA website, she reflected on this incredible week:
“It’s a dream come true. It’s amazing to be able to play here, in such a special place. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better tournament to reach the final. I’m very, very proud.
You always have to keep going and never stop, no matter how things turn out. I’m a great example of that: I’ve had ups and downs, but I’ve always kept going. I love tennis, I love sports, and I live for these moments.”
