Anisimova Upsets Top-Seeded Zheng to Reach Queen’s Final

Anisimova faced Zheng in the Queen’s semifinals. The two players had met twice before on the tour, with the Chinese player holding a clear advantage (2-0). However, both matches had been tightly contested.
The first set saw a dominant performance from the American, who was ultra-clutch on decisive points (2/2 break points converted), despite a tight start to the match. While everything seemed to be going the 23-year-old’s way, the 2024 Olympic champion’s resilience turned the tide. Zheng created numerous opportunities on her opponent’s serve (4/8 break points) to level the semifinal. Anisimova, however, converted every break chance she had (3/3) despite losing the set.
In the third and final set, the world No. 15 won the battle of wills against Zheng, first breaking at 3-3 before closing out the match in 2 hours and 13 minutes with a (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) victory. Zheng was too shaky on serve and not clinical enough in key moments.
Anisimova will face Maria (No. 86) in the final. The German qualifier eliminated the tournament’s No. 2 seed, Keys, (6-3, 7-6) to advance.
