"It's a great milestone in my career," Atmane reacts to breaking into the ATP top 100
Terence Atmane shines in Cincinnati. The 23-year-old Frenchman delivered one of the best performances of his career to claim the scalp of world No. 4 Taylor Fritz in a thrilling three-set victory.
Qualifying for the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 for the first time in his career, Atmane is savoring the moment. And as good fortune never comes alone, the Frenchman is now guaranteed to make his debut in the top 100 after the tournament in Ohio. After the match, he reflected on this achievement, which rewards years of hard work.
"It feels strange to say it. A two-digit ranking, thanks to this tournament. It's not an end goal, but it's a great milestone in my career. I've worked hard for this. Now, I'll have to keep climbing, until the end of my career.
I don’t want to set any limits for myself. I think that’s what made the difference today. I didn’t set any limits, I didn’t focus on who was across the net—I gave 100%.
Being in the top 100 means fewer qualifying rounds. It also confirms a certain financial stability that will allow me to invest in my coaching team. I’ll also be able to save money because playing in Challengers costs a lot.
This is all just a bonus. But I’ll have to be smart and keep working, show what I can do on the main Tour and not just in Challengers. Now, I have to keep rising, and it’ll be a great challenge," Atmane concluded in his interview with *L'Équipe*.
