Atmane, guaranteed to make his top 100 debut, joins twelve fellow French players
Terence Atmane will be the sole French tennis representative in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The 23-year-old continued his impressive run, which began in the qualifying rounds, by defeating world No. 4 Taylor Fritz in three sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-3) during the round of 16, late Wednesday into Thursday.
With this victory, the player who was ranked 136th in the ATP at the start of the tournament is now guaranteed to break into the top 100 for the first time in his career. Virtually ranked 93rd in the Live Rankings ahead of his match against Holger Rune, Atmane joins an already crowded list.
Indeed, Atmane will become the 13th French player in the top 100 next week. He joins Arthur Fils, Ugo Humbert, Alexandre Muller, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Corentin Moutet, Gaël Monfils, Benjamin Bonzi, Quentin Halys, Adrian Mannarino, Arthur Rinderknech, Arthur Cazaux, and Valentin Royer.
This is excellent news for French tennis as the US Open approaches, set to begin on August 24. In just over a week, many of these players will be battling to go as far as possible in New York.
