"It's hard to believe this bitter memory won't resurface in his mind," Toni Nadal discusses the potential semifinal between Sinner and Djokovic at Wimbledon.
In an interview with *El País*, Toni Nadal, uncle of the Spanish legend, shared his thoughts on the possible semifinal clash between Sinner and Djokovic. While the Serb boasts extraordinary experience in this tournament (7 titles), the Italian has lost twice to him on grass (2022, 2023). Additionally, the world No. 1 is coming off a defeat in the Roland-Garros final—a disappointment that could weigh heavily on his mind, according to Toni:
"Djokovic has a well-deserved reputation as an indefatigable fighter. His age (38), rather than suggesting he has few opportunities left to add to his legacy, could become a real source of motivation. Even though it's clear Novak is far from his best form these days, I think if he manages to advance through the rounds, he could be the second favorite for the title.
As for the Italian player, it remains to be seen whether his painful June 8th loss in Paris will influence his upcoming challenges. It's hard to believe the recent, bitter memory won't resurface in Sinner's mind, but you can never completely rule out—as is the case with great players—that he’ll bring out the best version of himself."
Meanwhile, in the round of 16, Djokovic will face De Minaur, while Sinner takes on Dimitrov.
