It's not enough to just show up at a Grand Slam for everything to magically fall into place," says Mouratoglou about Djokovic
Struggling in his recent outings, Djokovic has many fans worried as Roland-Garros approaches. Withdrawing from Rome, Djokovic has decided to compete in the Geneva tournament the week before the Parisian Grand Slam. A similar choice to last year, when the Serb later reached the semifinals at Porte d’Auteuil. Additionally, the 37-year-old player announced his split with his coach and former rival Andy Murray after just six months.
In an interview shared by Tennis World Italia, Mouratoglou reflected on the Serb’s decisions:
"Novak Djokovic parts ways with Andy Murray. No wins on clay. Big questions ahead of Roland-Garros. I’ve been saying it for a while: motivation is key for Novak. He doesn’t need to play the entire clay season. But he does need to play a few matches, with the right mindset and a clear will to win.
Because there’s nothing better than competition. It’s not enough to just show up at a Grand Slam for everything to magically fall into place. His decision to play in Geneva makes sense. He wants to regain momentum, even if just a little, before heading to Paris. The question is: will it be enough?
